Gomis Strikes To Send Swansea Through

On a night where the Swans fielded a team that had many changes and were led by Nathan Dyer it was a sharp finish from Gomis that was the difference between the two sides and enough to see the Swans progress in the competition.

And we should be glad of that progression and valuable game time for the likes of Federico Fernandez, Jefferson Montero and Gomis all of whom made their debuts for the Swans having missed out on the opening games of the season or – in the case of Fernandez – not signed in time to have the chance.

And all three did their chances of a place in future games no hand as the Swans continued their perfect start to the season and mirrored their start of two years ago when they won their opening three games.

There were also rare starts for Tiendalli, Bartley and Richards at the back and the midfield had a very unfamiliar look with Jay Fulton, Josh Sheehan and Tom Carroll making up the midfield trio as Garry Monk continued with his predicted switching of the players. Indeed, it was only Nathan Dyer from Saturday’s starting line up that tarted the game although there were second half appearances for Shelvey,Sigurdsson and Bony all of whom came off the bench.

As with Burnley on Saturday, the Millers managed just one shot on target in the 90 minutes and were second best in the possession stakes as they never really threatened Tremmel in our goal and it was a relatively easy and uneventful night for the Swans as we coasted into the next round.

Job done on this particular front and we await the third round draw to see who is next on our steps to Wembley.
