Can We Hold Onto Wilf?

Everybody has predicted all summer that Bony will be on his way out after his superb season last year where he notched over 20 goals following his move from Utrecht in the transfer window last summer.

Swansea’s record signing has been linked with many clubs in the Premier League particularly those who are in the Champions League this season which is always something that will turn a players head if there is interest confirmed.

However, the Chairman confirmed at the recent fans forum that there had been no confirmed bids which considering the number that have been reported is an incredible thought and we have to hope that it remains the case as the clock ticks towards eleven o’clock this evening.

Many people will tell you that they believe the club thought that Bony was on his way this summer hence the signing of Bafetimbi Gomis and that may well be the case given the nature of the signing which is reported to cost us a reasonable amount every week in basic wages alone.

And I guess there is that level of comfort that if we do end up with a bid for Wilf today that we cannot refuse then we have a ready made replacement in Gomis ready to step into his shoes as our main striker.

For what it is worth I think that Wilf will be here at the end of today. It would seem unlikely to me to see the main teams in the country making such a big money signing on the last day without at least having bids beforehand but I accept that the view may be driven more by hope rather than anything else as I have said all summer that Wilf would stay beyond the transfer window.

Garry Monk has said that we do not want players to leave and the club must stand firm in the flurry of any bids and if we do sell then the price has to be right for us at the very least. But let’s hope that it will not be an issue and that come eleven o’clock tonight people can put ‘Wilfried 10’ on the back of their shirts knowing that we have held onto our main man.

Fingers crossed.
