Bony Double Does It For Swans

Bony converted perfectly laid on chances from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jefferson Montero to lift the mood at the Liberty but more importantly to lift the Swans back into the top six of the Premier League.

It may not have been the most flowing of Swansea performances but both goals were brilliant in the way they were crafted and whilst Bony was the beneficiary in terms of names on the scoresheet it was the link up play of Gylfi again for me that was a joy to watch.

He linked perfectly with Wilf for the first with a superb one two that left the striker the job of placing the ball past Kasper Schmeichel in the visiting goal. If that was good his pass for Montero for the second was brilliant as Leicester’s defence was ripped open in one touch and the winger laid on the perfect ball for Bony to take the easiest of chances he is likely to receive this season.

Two goals, a clean sheet and three points were just what was needed at the club after a run that had seen us secure just two points from the previous fifteen and set us up nicely for a week where we travel to Liverpool twice to face the city’s two teams in two different competitions.

The sky cameras were not given the feast of football that they probably desired but the reality of the game was there was only going to be one winner with Leicester never really, with any massive threat, forcing the Swans fans into too much to worry about with the rest of the chances mainly falling to the Swans bar a couple of late efforts from the visitors.

Jonjo Shelvey and Jefferson Montero were the two changes to the starting line up from that which we saw last weekend at Stoke with Tom Carroll and Nathan Dyer dropping to the bench and it was the pace of Montero that was always an option that the Swans were looking to use although he was well shepherded at times by the Leicester full back.

Ki and Shelvey were getting plenty of the ball though in midfield and there were plenty of willing outlets for that ball as the Swans dominated the first half possession but chances were always few and far between.

It was therefore somewhat of a relief when Bony did open the scoring just past the half hour mark finishing off the brilliant move between him and Gylfi even if that did seem to make the Swans defend slightly more than we would like, especially at home, but it was important to ensure that lead was in place at the half time interval.

As is the norm at the Liberty the visitors came out quick in the second half but never really looked like scoring and the game was probably in effect over when Wilf scored his second and the Swans were clear.

There was more than enough time for Shelvey to rattle the cross bar from more than 30 yards out but that was the best of the remaining chances in the game and the countdown to the three points was a successful one and a big win for the Swans was secured.

There are undoubtedly tougher tests to come – Everton, Arsenal and Man City are next up for the Swans – but this was a big three points and we are now more than a third of the way to the 40 point barrier with more than three quarters of the season left to run.
