Arsenal Downed By Swans – Again!

A brilliant free kick from Gylfi Sigurdsson started the comeback for the Swans who had gone a goal down to a breakaway move after a wayward pass from Wilfried Bony. I don’t think you could argue that Arsenal deserved the goal but it was definitely a case at the type of a game that you suspected may be settled by just the one goal – we just hopes that those thoughts would be proved wrong and they were.

When you also consider that we went into the game with no sign of either Wayne Routledge or Nathan Dyer and with the news as well that Federico Fernandez is set for a reasonable spell on the sidelines. But the likes of Kyle Bartley and Thomas Carroll stepped up to the mark admirably and by the time the final whistle blew it was a deserved win for the Swans.

There was also a Premier League debut for Barrow and his extreme pace saw him earn the free kick which was converted by Sigurdsson. It always takes something special to score from 30 yards out but a precision strike bought Gylfi his second goal of the season and the majority of the 20,812 crowd to their feet as the Swans celebrated an equaliser.

If that was a big moment, just three minutes later the comeback was complete as Bafe Gomis rose to head home the cross of Jefferson Montero who had the measure of the Arsenal defence for most of the afternoon. It was Gomis’ first goal in the Premier League and it could not have been better timed as it was just about his first touch of the ball as he replaced WIlf straight after Gylfi struck the equaliser.

The Liberty was rocking and the Swans were adding three more points to what is already an impressive points tally this season. Given that November was supposed to be a tough month we now have four points from six and are showing that there is much strength in the squad as well – something that many doubted was the case.

You cannot take anything away from us for this win and I am not even fussed that the media seemed to focus more on the problems Arsenal have than anything. They were beaten by the better team today and whilst we asked to stand up and be counted we had eleven players – led by Ashley Williams carrying an injury from the first minute – who did just that and came out of the game with the three points that we wanted.

It is still too early to be dreaming of European qualification but who would have thought that after eleven games Southampton, West Ham and Swansea would be in the Premier League top 5.

Next up for us is Manchester City and if we were able to upset the odds and win again then we would draw level with them with a third of the season just about gone.

Brilliant brilliant day
