Wolves And Burnley Chase Britton Signature

After the recent departure of Alan Tate from the club, the loss of Britton would be the cutting of the last playing tie with the team that avoided relegation out of the football league against Hull back in 2003.

Of course in manager Garry Monk we have a long standing servant of the club but Britton – bar a brief departure to Sheffield United – has been part of the furniture just about since he joined the club back towards the end of 2002.

But with Garry Monk now unable to guarantee Britton first team football thanks to the excellent form of the likes of Jack Cork and Ki Sung Yeung it could well be that this summer we see Leon leave the club for the final challenges of his career

“They are the future of the club, I understand that. But if they take my place in the squad, I am going to be training all week and then running round the training ground on my own on a Saturday, and that’s not what I want at my age.” Britton told the Evening Post earlier in the week

“I said to the manager that I can’t do another season not playing. I have two years left on my contract, but I am 32 and I don’t want to be not playing at this age, so I have said to the manager that I will look at my options.”

Britton has been linked with a move to America and the MLS but now, according to Football League World, there is interest from both Burnley and Wolves as they look to build their squads ahead of a Premier League push next season.

Burnley were relegated from the top flight at the end of last season and Wolves are managed by former Swansea manager Kenny Jackett and both would fit the bill for Leon’s type of game and I have to say I would be amazed if this was the only interest in a player who certainly fits the title legend when discussing his time here.
