Simeone’s father is Athletico Madrid manager Diego SImeone and press reports suggest that he has asked pals to find his son a club with a loan move for a year the preferred option of everyone concerned to help him find his feet,.
The striker has boundless energy and a fierce competitive edge – much like his father. But the difference between father and son is the younger Simeone’s proficiency around goal. Giovanni admits that he developed most of his football knowledge from his father, but the forward likens his play to striker Radamel Falcao who was of course at Manchester United last season
Giovanni was brought to River Plate by his father in 2008 when Diego was coach of the first team. Since that time the striker has made his way through the club’s youth system, before ultimately joining the senior squad where he helped Los Millonaires win the Argentina Primera Division and the Copa Sudamericana.
It is widely expected at some point in his career that Giovanni will line up under his father in Madrid but for now a years loan to the Premier League is likely.
