Swans And Aston Villa Target Tottenham Winger

The paper says that Garry Monk has a long standing interest in the player who was not a regular feature in the Spurs team last season and knows that something has to change this season with the European Championship finals looming on the horizon next summer.

It has been suggested though that he would stay at Spurs and fight for his place there.

There have also been reports earlier in the week that Spurs may be interested in Jonjo Shelvey that opens up the possibility of speculation over a deal involving both players in the same way that saw Gylfi Sigurdsson arrive here last summer whilst Michel Vorm and Ben Davies ended up at White Hart Lane.

As with many rumours, there is something here that all makes sense but I have to say that I just cannot see any truth in this one at all and whilst Townsend may well be on his way from Spurs this summer his destination for me is unlikely to be the Liberty.

He would not get any more game time here than he does there in my view with our competition for wide places being strong and given the fact that he has England ambitions then he only has to look at the lack of opportunities offered to players already here and realise that it may not be the best decision for him (or for us for that matter)
