Monk Wants Leon To Stay

The Post now reports that there has been concrete interest from Orlando but have dismissed the links with New York Red Bulls that again was mentioned first here on Planet Swans.

Britton’s first team opportunities it has to be say look limited next season which after the last 12 months is probably not what Leon wants at this stage in his career and I do have a feeling that he may decide in himself that he would like a new challenge where maybe he gets more regular first team football.

The move to the States could well appeal for a year or two but at some stage in the future I do think we will see Leon back at Swansea in some capacity if he does move on.

Monk told the Evening Post “The situation with Leon is one of the most difficult situations I have faced since taking this job, if not the most difficult

“Last year was a difficult year for him.

“He was out for four months at the start and when he came back people were playing well in his position

“When he came back he was going to get a chance and he had couple of illnesses. It was one of those seasons for him. He is still super-fit, but he ended up not playing the games he would have liked.

“Now he wants to play 30 or 40 games a season and I have said to him that realistically, he is not going to do that here now.

“He is still a big part of our squad and I love having him about รขโ‚ฌโ€ he can still contribute. But in his mind he needs to go and see if he can play those 30 or 40 games. If something that suits him comes along then that’s his choice รขโ‚ฌโ€ it’s all his choice.

“I want him to be here, but I understand he doesn’t want to play second-fiddle to anyone at this stage of his career.”
