Union Berlin 2 Crystal Palace 0

Crystal Palace were beaten 2-0 in the German Capital in a noisy encounter thanks to both sets of supporters.

Two goals from Steven Skrzybski were enough to give the home side a win – he scored the first on 57 minutes when he latched on to a through ball and slotted home beyond Hennessy and he capitalised on a mix up in the Palace defence to double the lead late on in the game.

FC Gronigen 0 Southampton 3

The Saints started off their Dutch tour with a comprehensive win over Ronald Koeman’s former team.

Goals from Josรƒยฉ Fonte, Sadio Manรƒยฉ and Graziano Pellรƒยจ were enough to give the visitors a win in a good test for them to open the tour.

Over 12,000 watched Koeman coming back to his hometown against the side he started his professional career with

The Saints boss said รขโ‚ฌล“We had to score more. I think each set-piece, each corner was very dangerous. Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm happy with the total performance of the players.

รขโ‚ฌล“We have made another step and thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs the difference between last week and this game. Thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs good.”

Southend United 2 West Ham United 3

West Ham’s busy pre-season continued as Dimitri Payet scored twice in an entertaining game at Roots Hall.

Payet scored an unstoppable free kick and a good finish into the corner to give the Hammers a win just 48 hours after their Europa League tie in midweek.

Southend had taken the lead thanks to Kevan Hurst whilst Anthony Wordsworth equalised before half time after Payet’s brace

An own goal though in the second half proved to be the final action as West Ham won again.
