Britton Torn Over Liberty Exit

When Leon arrived at the club towards the end of 2002 nobody would have predicted just how player and club would have knitted together and the midfield maestro has played in all four divisions for the Swans as an integral member of the side that moved through the divisions over a 6 year period.

But with the player now seemingly just only going to play a bit part at the club it looks like he may have to search elsewhere for his future career and it is widely speculated that MLS and Orlando City could be his destination if it is decided to part company.

Last week Britton was left at home from the German tour as Garry Monk told him that game time in Germany would be minimal and he ended up playing for the Under-21s in midweek whilst his team mates were abroad.

Britton though if possible would rather stay at Swansea but it is clear that he is not prepared to sit around and pick up a wage – he wants to see out his playing days on the pitch and not in the stands watching.

รขโ‚ฌล“My first choice would be to stay at Swansea,รขโ‚ฌย said Britton.

รขโ‚ฌล“This place has become my home and I would miss it. But I am 32 and I do not want to spend the last years of my career watching from the stands.

รขโ‚ฌล“I never saw this coming. A year ago I was excited and raring to go for our first season under the new manager

รขโ‚ฌล“Now, obviously, things are very different. Things change so quickly in football and this just shows you how true that is. At this time last year this is not a situation I was expecting to find myself in.

รขโ‚ฌล“That injury changed everything. It left me playing catch-up and when guys come in and take their chances while you are sat watching on the sidelines, there’s not much you can do.

รขโ‚ฌล“Jack Cork came in and from the moment he arrived he started doing really well. That changed everything overnight. I understand how football works. If people perform it is their shirt to keep.

รขโ‚ฌล“It can change back the other way though. If someone has an injury like I had, hopefully there is an opportunity for me to give the manager a headache.รขโ‚ฌย
