Draws For Aston Villa, West Ham and Leicester But Norwich Win

Walsall 1 Aston Villa 1

Aston Villa drew 1-1 in a local derby with Walsall as they continued their pre-season preparations.

The visitors, who handed Idrissa Gueye his debut, led through Callum Robinsonรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs finish from close range on 21 minutes.

Walsall equalised on the stroke of half-time when Anthony Fordeรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs free-kick took a wicked deflection off the wall and wrong-footed ‘keeper Jed Steer.

Mansfield Town 1 Leicester City 1

There was also a 1-1 draw for Leicester against Mansfield.

David Nugent gave the Foxes the lead with a curling effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards after 10 minutes.

Mansfield’s Matt Green levelled with a penalty after Dean Hammond brought down Mitchell Rose on 27 minutes.

Mansfield also hit the woodwork twice in the second half as they went in search of the winner.

Claudio Ranieri: “Mansfield were a better side than Lincoln, tough players that played strongly and it was important for us to play at the same speed

“It was difficult for us to play football, but I like to see my team under pressure in pre season. “I want a big challenge, but I don’t want any players injured, so I’m happy.รขโ‚ฌย

Charlton 0 West Ham 0

West Ham, fresh from scraping through in the Europa League in midweek drew 0-0 at Charlton in the latest of their pre-season games.

Diafra Sakho had the Hammersรขโ‚ฌโ„ข best chance after being played through by Dimitri Payet but his effort was blocked by goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Augsburg 1 Norwich 2

The Canaries fought back from a goal down to beat the German side with two late goals at the WWK Arena.

Piotr Trochowski had given the hosts the lead on 51 minutes with a 30-yard strike.
Youssouf Mulumbu equalised for Alex Neil’s side with 13 minutes remaining after a slick passing move.

And Mulumbu then turned provider to tee up Lewis Grabban to net the winner from close range.

Alex Neil: “I think the fact we won the game was pleasing against a good calibre of opposition.

“They’re a strong side who beat Bayern twice this season, so that shows you how well they can play.

“I thought you saw both sides of us as well. In the first half we didn’t press as well as we generally do, but in the second half that improved a lot. รขโ‚ฌล“
