The Swans were beaten 5-0 at the Liberty by the eventual Premier League Champions in what was the worst performance of the season as Chelsea walked all over a very poor Swansea side on the day and the scoreline could have been much worse.
If there is one thing though that I have learned from our time in the Premier League it is that we fight back from these setbacks and we moved on from that result and ended in our highest ever position and we could even use it as a spur for Saturday’s game.
I am sure that Garry Monk will be reminding the players of how they felt after that result prior to them taking to the field at Stamford Bridge and that could be enough for the Swans to pull off another famous opening day victory.
Monk said: รขโฌลItรขโฌโขs the hardest start we could possibly have. Chelsea are a side of such quality that they can walk all over you if you do not compete.
รขโฌลThe players did brilliantly for me all season and there were not many times I had to tell them they had not been good enough.
รขโฌลBut that 5-0 defeat was one of the few occasions we simply did not turn up and got what we deserved.
รขโฌลIt was a real low point of the season and we do not want to experience that again.รขโฌย
