Missing Mitrovic Was A Get Out Of Jail Moment

The Swans were heavily linked with the Serb striker in the summer before eventually cooling their interest which allowed Newcastle to come in and make the signature of the player.

Last week he was booked 16 seconds into his Premier League debut and whilst he lasted slightly longer yesterday it was still within two minutes that he got a booking and not long after a final warning from the referee it seemed.

I am really not sure whether he would have ever fitted into our style given the evidence so far although I fully accept that he could have been a different player for us. But as he came on yesterday he looked like a sluggish footballer who concentrates more on putting himself about than actually playing football.

His reaction during the incident with Taylor for me said much about what Newcastle have got for the money and I am sure I wasn’t the only one of the Swans fans in the ground yesterday who couldn’t help but feel thankful that we did not pursue our interest through to completion.

When you looked at the composure of Gomis in scoring our first goal yesterday and compared it to Mitrovic then it suggests that we have by far the better striker and one who seems to be getting better all the time.

It may well be that Mitrovic comes good for Newcastle in the end but the early evidence has to be worrying for them and with Manchester United to come for them next weekend it isn’t likely to get any easier for a player who already looks frustrated with his lot.

Whilst many were disappointed that we missed out in the summer I won’t be losing any sleep on this one I don’t think for a minute.
