Britton was named as captain of the Swans last night for the game a week after he confirmed that his future would remain with the club after speculation that he would be on his way out of the club at some point in the summer.
It seemed certain back at the start of July that Leon and Swansea City would part company at some point in time. He stayed at home while the club went on their pre-season camp in Germany after being told that his game time in the two games out there would be minimal.
But it did seem that neither party really wanted to separate and after a substitute appearance in the win over Newcastle it was confirmed that Leon would be staying at the Swans for the coming season at least.
And he was always likely to start last night’s game and I suspect we will see him again in the next round at Hull and it was of course a warm welcome for the player who deservedly wears the tag legend around his neck.
Speaking to the official site after the game, Leon said รขโฌลIt was a good game for all the lads
รขโฌลThree goals, none conceded and through to the next round.
รขโฌลIรขโฌโขve been on the side going to a team higher up the divisions than you, and we knew they would give everything, so we had to make sure we matched up tonight.
รขโฌลThe attitude was right from the players, which should be a given anyway, but the boys showed that. We were confident that with the quality weรขโฌโขve got, weรขโฌโขd come through and win the game.
รขโฌลWe couldnรขโฌโขt have wished for a better start, which kills the opposition a little bit. If you can get the early goal, it kills their confidence a little.”
