1. Our squad has huge strength in depth
We always suspected it but the game showed it. OK so the opposition was a League Two team but you tell me the last time we were able to make eleven changes and bring in eleven players who could do a job for us in the league if we needed to. Garry Monk deserves tremendous credit for putting this squad together and to think it was suggested that he wouldn’t be able to compete in the transfer market
2. Leon Britton – we all love him don’t we
I don’t care what anyone says I am absolutely delighted that Leon Britton is still at Swansea. No matter how little or how much he plays he can still offer us something and we should never underestimate how much he brings to us off the pitch with his knowledge of the club. Little things like that also help new players settle in and he showed once again that he still has his ability and we will see him in the Premier League more than we expected this season.
3. Matt Grimes is a real talent
It is pretty evident that the Swans rate Matt Grimes very highly and it is easy to see why. He scored a goal and whilst he missed chances as well you have to have something about you to get yourself into those positions and he will be a part of this club for quite some time I think. Give it 2 years and you will be surprised at how often he plays in our midfield.
4. Good crowd, good crowd
We can make all the comments we want about ticket prices but we had over 10,000 people in the ground for a game played by a team with 11 changes against League Two opposition. That is good in anybody’s books and I still remember the days when 10,000 was more than a Vetch Field sell out. If ever there was a case for stadium expansion this is it as many of these may struggle to get matchday tickets.
5. Hull away is a pretty crap draw really
I said before the game that if we wanted to go all the way to Wembley again we would need some luck with the draw but Hull away is pretty crap. They will certainly fancy their chances against us in the next round and it could well mean that we need to play some more “first teamers” to ensure progression which isn’t ideal when it is sandwiched between Everton at home and Southampton away. Ah well, its the price of success
