The Swans went into that clash three weeks ago with pretty much every expert believing that Chelsea would start the defence of their title with a win but the Swans came at them from the off and somehow the home side – ending the game with 10 men – managed to hold on for a draw.
The Swans never really received the credit for the quality of their performance thanks to the situation between the Chelsea manager and doctor but a performance along those lines for me will be more than enough to win today’s game against Manchester United.
Both sides go into the game today defending an unbeaten record this season with the Swans unbeaten in four and Man Utd in five. It was a league double for the Swans last season and Louis Van Gaal has talked of his desire to ensure that they don’t lose another one but they will need to improve the standard of their Premier League performances to date I think for that to happen.
Garry Monk knows what to expect from his opponents and knows that Van Gaal will want to put right what he believes to be one of his wrongs of last season.
“If you lose to any team twice in a season you want to put it right,” says the Swansea manager.
“You use that as motivation รขโฌโ I can think of a number of times I have used it as a manager and as a player.
“You want to try to put things right, and I am sure Louis van Gaal will be coming here wanting to win after two defeats last year.
“We have to be ready for the fact that they will be motivated by that.
“But we can also use it ourselves, because we have shown we can beat this type of team.
“We showed against Chelsea we can compete and not only that, we can really show what we can do. Hopefully this will be the same.”
