Monk saw his team fight back from a goal down thanks to strikes from Ayew and Gomis to lift themselves into the Top four of the Premier League as we head into the first international break of the season.
And it would have been doubly pleasing as it was a tactical change that made all the difference in the game as the Swans scored twice within five minutes to cancel out Juan Mata’s opening goal for the visitors.
Monk has now seen his side go five games unbeaten at the start of the season, four of them in the Premier League which given the difficulty of the fixtures that we have been faced with in August is an incredible result.
Speaking after the game Monk said รขโฌลIรขโฌโขm very happy, it was a difficult game, especially in the first half during the first 25 to 30 minutes. They started better, and it was hard to find the lines of passing.
รขโฌลBut we came into the game more so in the last 15 minutes of the first half and made the tactical change in the second half, which allowed us to change the game.
รขโฌลIt freed us up and made us look more of a threat. We then scored goals at the right time and were very clinical, which is pleasing.
รขโฌลThey didnรขโฌโขt react to the change well, and we took advantage of that.
รขโฌลBut what is most pleasing is the character and passion the players showed.
รขโฌลWeรขโฌโขve played some great football, but we showed that other side to us today, which is what a good team is all about.
รขโฌลThey dominated the ball but I didnรขโฌโขt feel they created much. We defended pretty comfortably, other than when Rooney went through and Ash made a great tackle.
รขโฌลOverall, I felt we had the best chances of the game and we came away with the win, which is the most important thing.รขโฌย
