1. Garry Monk will change things when they are not working
It was an inspired moment when Garry decided to take off Wayne Routledge and send on Ki Sung-Yeung. He could see that something needed to be changed and he proved he is not afraid to change it. The formation worked and Manchester United could not cope with it as admitted by their manager after the game. Brilliant decision from Monk and one that got the exact rewards that it deserved. A plan b if you like.
2. Wales’ captain is better than England’s captain
Ashley Williams is better than Wayne Rooney. As both nations move at a pace towards the European Championship finals next summer it is Williams who is holding the upper hand as he proved when Rooney hesitated when through on goal towards the end of the game. Williams was there to take the ball off him and the danger had gone. The media will tell you Rooney is out of form but on Sunday he was in the pocket of Williams.
3. Wayne Routledge is no Jefferson Montero
I know that is a pretty obvious statement but we did miss Montero yesterday and his ability to take on a defender. Routledge just does not do that and I am sure that Man Utd defenders were relieved to know that he was not playing. Things changed when Routledge went off but while he should remain a part of the squad his game time will be limited when Montero is fit
4. The Liberty can bounce at times
There are some games where the noise that comes from the Liberty is deafening and yesterday was one of them. Some of the renditions of the Swansea City song and Hymns and Arias yesterday made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and it is true that the crowd can be the 12th man when it makes the noise. Let’s do the same against Everton and create some more history.
5. Ayew and Gomis – the best ever?
These two will score loads of goals this season. I already have Gomis down as 20 but Ayew will get well into double figures and they are probably the best pairing we have ever had. Not that of course they are both playing the striker role but Ayew knows how to get into the second striker position as he proved when he scored the equaliser on Sunday. We did a phenomenal piece of business to sign him this summer and both of them are a joy to watch. As is our whole team come to think of it!
