Signing for the Swans on a free transfer in the summer, Ayew has scored three goals in his opening four Premier League campaigns and also set up the winner for Bafetimbi Gomis in the Swans last outing against Manchester United.
He, along with Gomis, was nominated for the award yesterday and it was confirmed today that he was the season’s first winner.
There were a host of clubs interested in the signing of Ayew back in the summer but, as discussed at last night’s fans forum by Huw Jenkins, his representatives contacted Swansea about a move and the club were more than happy to take forward those discussions and secure a signature.
Ayew beat off competition from fellow team-mate Bafe Gomis along with David Silva, Aleksandar Kolarov (both Manchester City), Chris Smalling (Manchester United) and Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) to win the first award of the season.
Ayew is the first Swansea player to win the award since Gylfi Sigurdsson who won it while on loan in March 2012.
Congratulations to Andre from all at Planet Swans.
