Last month he called up Jonjo Shelvey and gave him his first England starts against San Marino and Switzerland as England sealed their qualification for Euro 2016 and won their group in the process.
There was a big school of thought then that Shelvey shouldn’t have been the only Swansea player in the squad with Jack Cork also being touted as an England international.
We have said it on here many times and it was a view re-iterated by Leon Britton at the fans forum last week when he said that the squad was delighted for Jonjo but believed that Jack should have been joining him in the squad.
Cork signed for the Swans back in the January transfer fee for what is clearly a bargain price from Southampton and he has appeared in every Premier League game for the Swans since then. His performances have been a big reason for our excellent form in 2015 that saw us finish last season in 8th place and start this one so well despite last week’s setback at Watford.
Those performances should have already warranted a call in my book but it does now seem as if it could be coming as Hodgson considers his midfield options for France next summer. The injury prone Jack Wilshire is out again and we all know here that Cork is better than Delph by some considerable distance.
At the moment it would seem madness for Hodgson not to even look at Cork in a competitive game even if that discounts him from the squad but the least he deserves is his chance.
Surely it has to happen?
