Monk Not Understanding Panic Reactions

Bafetimbi Gomis scored the Swans last goal as the winner against Manchester United at the Liberty at the end of last month but since then the Swans have drawn one and lost two which of course included the midweek Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Hull City.

The team though remain in 7th place in the Premier League and could lift themselves higher today with the right result at Southampton and Monk is certainly not one who believes that there is any plan to panic.

And he is right in fairness, last week we earned a good point against Everton and, Watford expected, the performances so far this season have been good and a similar performance today should see us leaving St Mary’s with at least a point under our belt.

“The way I am getting asked things is as if we are reaching for the panic button or something,” Monk said at his pre-match press conference.

“We have only lost one game in the Premier League, let’s not forget that.

“You can include pre-season as well if you like, and that’s another five games without defeat.

“So in terms of confidence and focus you can see it’s there.

“I think these questions (about Swansea’s form) stem from the Watford performance, which we were disappointed with and didn’t see coming.

“But the nature of this sport is that you get setbacks. What is important is you react to them well and we did that against Everton to get a good point.”
