Let’s not get carried away and think that Ayew will end up topping a list that will contain Cristiano Ronald and Lionel Messi but we should be proud of having any player on that list even if it is for his performances for Marseille and Ghana.
What it tells you is that we signed a real gem in the summer and there is plenty more to come from the player. His three goals in his opening four games tells you just that and if he can continue to build on that and we get the best out of him then there is plenty more to come.
The list of 59 that contains the name of Ayew will be whittled down to a final 23 which will then be voted on by national captains and journalists to decide the eventual winner.
What would be more spectacular would be if Ayew made that through to the next stage of the competition but I do think this may be the final list for him but one that he should be proud of and one that we, as Swans fans, should be proud of him for achieving.
It may not feel a huge thing but to have one of the top 59 players is a great achievement.
