It followed the departure earlier in the day of Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat leaving two Premier League clubs looking for a new manager although there was immediate speculation that Liverpool would be announcing Jurgen Klopp as the replacement for Rodgers very soon.
Rodgers left the Liberty for Liverpool in the summer of 2012 having kept the Swans in the Premier League when it was not expected that he could do it. He could – and probably should – have won the league with them in 2013/14 but just missed out to Manchester City at almost the final hurdle.
Since then though it has been anything but plain sailing and, despite a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, time was called on Rodgers tenure as Liverpool manager.
รขโฌลI am surprised at the decision and I cannot believe it,รขโฌย said Monk when he heard the news. รขโฌลIt is a very harsh decision and he did not deserve that at all.
รขโฌลHe is a top manager; you do not know what happens behind closed doors but I am really shocked. I will try and speak to him because you never like to see things like that.
รขโฌลHe did a great job here at Swansea, he was fantastic for us and I am not sure who would do a better job at Liverpool.
รขโฌลHe will bounce back, he was so supportive to me given me advice when I got the job here, he is a top man and a top manager. I donรขโฌโขt understand it.รขโฌย
