Michu’s career has pretty much been on hold for almost two years since he was one of the hottest properties in the Premier League after an amazing first season that ended with the Swans in Europe and Michu playing for Spain.
Since then, it has been downhill as Michu elected he did not want to play for the club following the sacking of Michael Laudrup and a series of injuries had been limiting his appearances prior to that particular incident.
A spell on loan at Napoli last season was blighted by injury and as that came to an end the Swans were saying that they did not want the player back at Swansea but he was unable to find himself a new club during the course of the transfer window.
It was reported that the stalemate was over money with Michu wanting his contract paid up in full and the Swans seemingly only wanting to pay up a proportion of it to get off their books a player who looked destined for greater things at one stage.
No figures have yet been confirmed as to the value of the pay off but it will be interesting to see what happens now to Michu who must always look back on the last two years and wonder what could have been.
When he arrived at Swansea he did so in a glut of goals that had talk of รยฃ20m+ moves away from the Liberty but it never materialised into offers and will always be a good lesson to anyone of how quickly things can change in football.
A shame that it ended the way that it did but for me it will always be thank you for the memories that you helped create for us in your time here and I think I will always wish him the best but also wish that it had turned out so differently.
