It’s Got To Be Either Back Him Or Sack Him

When you realise that the fixtures computer throws you out home games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool in a row you think its not going to be easy but when the away games that sandwich them are Leicester, Southampton and Arsenal then you wonder whether you did something wrong in a previous life somewhere.

The reality probably is at the moment that if you looked at the “points won v points expected” tally so far, the Swans are two, maybe three, points down on where we could be expected to be at this point in time. The killer one was the home defeat to Hull and I wonder if we stood at the moment with seven points rather than four if the position of the manager would even be up for discussion.

It shows the madness that can be the Premier League at times that we are where we are and I have absolutely no doubt that we have leaks coming out of the club in regards the managers future.

For me it is a very simple position at the moment in that the club should simply back him or sack him. If we believe he is the right man for the job – which I assume we did back at the end of last season when we gave him a new contract – then we back him and assure him of his future and we do it very publically.

If we do not believe he is the right person for the job then we take the plunge and make the change. But we do it in the right manner, replace him and then take some look to see who is out there for replacement and make the right decision. That decision being the best person and someone who we work with for a couple of years as a minimum.

Personally I find myself neither in a “Guidolin In or Out” camp just someone who wants us to do the right thing and make the decision that is best for the football club. I do admit that it seems odd that we would give a contract in the summer and then just half a dozen games later be talking about getting rid but then maybe that is the animal the Premier League millions have created.

The last two home performances have given some hope for the future without a doubt and positives we can take forward. We played well enough against Chelsea (who still probably should have won the game) and yesterday we matched a Manchester City side for over an hour before falling away at the end. Performances like that against the likes of Watford or Stoke at the back end of October will yield results.

What will always be accepted is a run of two points every three games will not be enough to keep you in this division so we have to always be mindful of this but right now the club needs to make the decision suggested at the top of this article and stick with it.
