Under the leadership of Michael Laudrup this was in the period when we were a superb side with the likes of Michu and Pablo Hernandez causing havoc on more than one occasion but I dont think many who arrived at the Liberty that evening expected what unfolded.
The Baggies were being tipped for European football after a superb start to the season but found themselves two down inside eleven minutes with goals from Michu and Routledge as the Swans crisp passing style over run the visitors.
Routledge added another before half time but the wind was taken a little out of our sails by an injury time goal from Lukaku to reduce the deficit and the second half never reached the heights of the first.
Laudrup was clear in his praise after the game “The first half was one of the few times as a manager that you are just watching the game, it was a delightful, it was fantastic.
“We also saw the quality and attitude but the mental part is important too because they scored late in the first half.
“It was a great team performance and I don’t want to single out any individual performance.
“Everybody was great to watch. We have the momentum and we want to keep it now.”
It may not have been our biggest Premier League win or even our most important one but for me it remains the best 45 minutes of football I have seen us play – what would we give for more of the same on Sunday?
