Wales Online and The Liverpool Echo are both running with the same view that a deal is looking seemingly unlikely with the Swans holding out for a figure that Everton are yet to meet.
However, given that Gylfi sat out the American tour and that he seemingly wants to make the move happen then I would be amazed if nothing happens before too much longer and I suspect it will be at a figure that is less than the รยฃ50m being quoted as the minimum Swansea will accept.
Whether we like it or not, it is generally player power that rules the day in football and it does appear that Sigurdsson wants to leave the club and the Swans do also seem to be holding out on any strong transfer movement until such time that his future is resolved.
Links with several players all seem dependent on the Icelandic international making a move to Merseyside and with the new season just two weeks away there is little doubt that this saga will already impact on the start of our season whatever the outcome.
But I certainly don’t hold any different views despite this morning’s newspaper reports. I firmly believe Gylfi will be an Everton player certainly before the window shuts and this is the final hardball moves from both sides before they shake hands on what that deal looks like.
