One in and one to follow?

The Swans last night confirmed the signing of Brighton striker Viktor Gyokeres on a season long loan subject to international clearance and is the first of what is expected to be two arrivals at the Liberty this weekend.

Gyokeres is expected to be shortly followed by Joe Piggott signing from AFC Wimbledon to add some further much needed firepower to a side that has started the season well but looks very goal shy at the best of times.

Gyokeres has featured eight times for Brighton in their first team, netting last month against Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup but Graham Potter feels that he needs some regular first team football and has allowed him to head to Swansea on that season long loan.   Gyokeres spent last season on loan in Germany scoring 7 times in 26 games for St Pauli in the German second tier.

“Viktor has made good progress last season and at the start of this one; his selection for our three Carabao Cup ties reflects that,” Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth said.

“This loan spell is the next stage in his development. He will get regular game-time at Championship level and with a club Graham (Potter) knows well.

“We wish him well for the season ahead at Swansea and David Weir’s loans team will be monitoring his performances closely.”

Meanwhile the Swans look to have beaten off competition from league leaders Reading for the services of Piggott scored 7 times for the Dons in the league last season and has netted twice already this term and the deal is thought to be worth in the region of £200,000.

With Rhian Brewster now on his way on a permanent deal to Sheffield United then any hopes the Swans may have had of signing the player have disappeared and with just three goals in four games to date this season it was essential we bolster our options up front and two players will do just that.   All we can hope now is that they do the job we need them to do.   Hopes will be high for Gyokeres for certain but the move for Piggott is one that remains to be seen although 29 goals in 95 League One appearances is not a poor return by any stretch of the imagination.
