Swansea captain Matt Grimes will continue his run of consecutive league games for the Swans this afternoon when we welcome Blackburn to the Liberty looking to secure back to back wins in the league at home following the midweek win over Stoke.
It has been more than two years since Grimes sat out a Swansea league game – a 2-2 draw with Leeds on 21st August 2019 saw him as an unused substitute in one of Graham Potter’s first game’s in charge.
If you include the play off games with Brentford last season then this will be Grimes’ 99th consecutive league game for the club, still some way behind the 169 achieved by Ashley Williams record for the club but with games currently coming twice a week still a strong achievement.
And he believes that the midweek win over Stoke was one of the Swans best performances of the season and wants that form to carry forward to this afternoon.
โI thought we played really well in midweek, especially in the first half,โ said the midfielder.
โWe looked a threat and we probably played some of the best football we have played so far this season.
โIt also got us back to winning ways and picking up the three points so we move forward with momentum behind us.
โWe know Saturday will be a tough game and they have had some wins where they have scored a number of goals, so they will be dangerous.
โSaturday will be tough, but weโll be confident and positive and go looking to get another win.โ
Blackburn arrive at the Liberty as the division’s top scorers having netted 18 times in their 8 games to date.ย Defensively though the Swans remain strong with just 5 goals conceded so confidence rightly should be high within a squad that will need to be at their best to secure the win.
