Grey hands over a winning team

The Swans Under-23’s under the control of Jon Grey signed off his time in charge with a 2-0 win over Millwall meaning that Grey can complete his move upstairs and hand over the reigns of the Swans’ next generation in the hands of the incoming Kris O’Leary and Anthony Wright, the latter of whom is moving up from the Under-18’s.

Goals from Daniel Williams and Jordi Govea earned the side the three points in what was a tough encounter for the young Swans but ultimately a performance that pleased Grey with what he sawย โ€œIt was a really good performance on a difficult surface, we defended really well and took our chances, which was pleasing.

โ€œWe defended as a team from front to back. The back four did very well and Jamie made some excellent saves.

โ€œObviously, we came under pressure at certain points in the game, but we showed good resilience and character to defend and keep a clean sheet.โ€

O’Leary and Wright will make their managerial bow with the group on Monday when the Swans face Ipswich and Grey heads into his old role as head of Academy coaching knowing that the group continues to play a huge part in the football club.

โ€œI thanked the boys at the end. Iโ€™ve really enjoyed it over the past year,โ€ he added.

โ€œItโ€™s now time for me to go back to my daily job. Iโ€™ve continued to do it even though Iโ€™ve been in charge of the under-23s, but I havenโ€™t been able to fully focus on it.

โ€œIโ€™m looking forward to having an impact on all the teams in the academy.

โ€œHaving worked with the club for so long and all the players at some point, I just hope we can keep evolving and ensuring we can continue to produce first-team players for Swansea City.โ€
