Daniel Williams was on target for the Under-23s this week as they beat Millwall 2-0 to record a victory in Jon Grey’s last game in charge.

Williams scored an impressive goal from outside the box to open the scoring before the emotional moment that saw Jordi Govea score the second after his extended absence through injury.

The goal though that opened the scoring was the result of the hard work put in by Williams after training sessions where he revealed he stays behind to put in extra training with Mike Marsh and Alan Tate particularly on his finishing.

The midweek goal was only his second of the season but he is a clear believer in the ‘practice makes perfect’ mantra – a great example of any young player wanting to get on in the game.

“I don’t score too often, so it’s good to make it a good goal when I do,” he laughed.

“The ball came to me at an awkward height. I tried to hit it as hard as I could and, luckily, I was able to keep it down.

“After training with the first team, I stay behind and work with Marshy and Tatey on my finishing.

“I’ve been working on that for the past three or four months now, so practice makes perfect as they say.”
