Woodgate on his “brilliant” Cherries

Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate was full of praise for his Bournemouth side after they brushed aside the Swans at the Vitality Stadium last night to very much keep their play off hopes alive.

Woodgate saw his side score three unanswered goals to put a big dent in the Swans automatic promotion hopes and get the perfect response after watching his side give up a lead to lose to Barnsley on the same ground last Saturday.

The hosts were rarely tested by the visiting Swans on a night where our recent indifferent form was clear for everyone to see and we cannot have any groans about the end result as it proved to be a fair reflection of the game and the overall play on the night.

“It was a good performance and full credit to the players,” said Woodgate.

“Theyโ€™ve had it tough recently with leading both games at half-time against Preston and against Barnsley. To see this one out with the icing on the cake with a third goal and a clean sheet was good.

Bournemouth were given an early boost with a good finish from an unmarked Philip Billing and added a second just before the break when Latibeaudiere deflected in a Solanke header before Danjuma completed the scoring late on to complete the scoring.
Despite the defeat – and Watford’s comprehensive win at Rotherham – the Swans still have promotion in our hands largely due to the fact that we are due to play Watford on the last day of the season but on the evidence of last night that game will be nothing more than a formality!
