Steve Cooper is being reported as being on a list to replace Aidy Boothroyd as England Under-21 boss should the FA decide that a change is needed at the helm following the European Championships.
Boothroyd has watched his side lose the first two group matches of the finals of the competition and it looks almost certain that they will miss out on the knockout unless they beat Croatia and Portugal beat Switzerland on Wednesday.
That has only served to increase pressure on Boothroyd and it is now being suggested that should they go out of the tournament this early it will be the end of his tenure in charge of the team with the FA looking at potential replacements.
Cooper is highly rated within the FA having led the Under-17s to World Cup glory in 2017 and an insider is reported as tellingย Football Insiderย that his name would be near the top of a list of potential replacements should it be required.
The report continues “Whilst he will be considered for the potential England Under-21 vacancy and asked if heโs interested, the FA will have other names in the frame.
“Football League World also understand that Charlton Athleticโs Under-21 coach, Jason Euell, and Jody Morris could be options for the FA.”
