Andy Woodman – Dad of Freddie – hopes that his son can make the grade at Newcastle United as the Swans on loan keeper continues his preparations to add to his clean sheets this season on the road to what we would all hope is a Premier League place next season for us let alone the keeper himself.
Woodman was speaking after parting company with Arsenal and moving to Bromley to take over the managerial reigns and looking back not just on his own time with Newcastle but his hopes for Freddie who is currently on a second season long loan at the Liberty.
It has long since been stated that Woodman wants to be the goalkeeper of choice at St James Park and whilst there was an Arsenal link not that long ago it always felt nothing more than lay journalism due to his Dad’s position at the Emirates Stadium.
“Freddie’s had a really great season,” said Woodman. “Has he exceeded my expectations? No, never. I think all of these stepping stones he’s taken are with the main goal of being Newcastle’s No.1 goalie.
“He knows where he wants to get to. Freddie, with or without my help, he’s always known exactly how he’s going to do that. That’s stood him in good stead.
“I’ve been lucky enough for my son to make his debut, and I hope, in time, he will go on to be very successful at Newcastle – I really mean that.”
