Ayew unlikely to be fit to face QPR?

Steve Cooper did not seem overly optimistic that Andre Ayew would be fit for the visit of QPR on Tuesday evening after the Swans top scorer was forced off after just 7 minutes of yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Wycombe at the Liberty.

With seventeen goals to his name this season, Cooper will be hoping that Ayew recovers quickly from the hamstring injury that forced his early departure particularly with just four games left of the season before the play-offs start.

Ayew’s injury coincided with the goalscoring return of Liam Cullen late on in the game but it would be reasonably obvious to assume that Cooper will need both his players with a maximum of seven games left this season.

The sensible option would therefore be certainly not to risk Ayew on Tuesday night so soon after he has sustained the injury and to wait until next weekend at the earliest to bring him back and allow time for a proper rest period.ย  With Cullen fit and ready to go a start for the youngster seems certain on Tuesday night although Cooper will have other options available to him should he choose.

โ€œHe has walked off with a hamstring, I havenโ€™t seen him yet but we expect it will take about 24 to 48 hours to settle down and for us to know the extent of the injury,” Cooper said after the game

โ€œWe donโ€™t know yet, but you canโ€™t walk off after eight minutes and play a few days later unless something extraordinary happens.

โ€œI donโ€™t want to speculate really, until it settles down and we get it scanned we wonโ€™t know the full extent of the injury.โ€
