Phil SumblerBarnsley head coach Valรฉrien Ismaรซl was taking heart from a play off match two years ago when he looked back on the result against the Swans last night and delivered a stark warning to Steve Cooper and his side that he sees the tie as far from over.
It was two years ago that Leeds United won the first leg of their semi final against Derby at Pride Park and took the tie back to Elland Road with most people believing that they were on their way to Wembley.
But, an incredible night at Elland Road saw Derby secure the win and their place at Wembley and consigned Leeds to another season in the Championship as a direct result.
“The performance in the second half gives us a good feeling for the second leg. Everything can happen,” said Ismaรซl.
“Two years ago Leeds won at Derby 1-0 and everyone thought Leeds would go through.
“Big pressure on Swansea, we will fight like the second half.”
The Swans will clearly not underestimate Barnsley especially after taking a 1-0 lead into last season’s play off semi final second leg before losing 3-1 at Brentford on the night to miss out on their own place at Wembley.
“We’ve been here before, I think it’ll be good to have a conversation with the players in the week,” said Swans boss Steve Cooper.
“I think it’ll be good to reflect on tonight, having a noisier stadium.
“Not to sound like a play-off cliche, but it’s half time.”
