Marc says goodbye and returns to Chelsea with the Swans in his heart

Marc Guehi has been one of the successes of the past two seasons.ย  From what looked like a slightly shaky start on his first arrival he quickly turned into one of the most composed defenders in the Championship and someone who clearly has a great career ahead of him.

Unfortunately for us he was unable to get us promoted despite two good efforts from the team (one play off final aside) but ultimately Saturday was always going to be his last game whether we won or lost it as Guehi is simply destined for bigger things than Swansea City.

He has every chance of breaking into the Chelsea team but even if that isn’t one for next year a season on loan somewhere in the Premier League will only enhance his club and international ambitions which are stronger now than they have ever been.

It was though with some level of heavy heart that he bid farewell to the Swans after Saturday’s game and explained to the official Swans website that he will always have a place in his heart for the Swans following his two years here.

The fans and everyone at the club have really embraced me and taken me in as if I was family,โ€ said Marc.

โ€œIt’s been an amazing time I’ve spent here; Swansea City will forever be in my heart. I enjoyed every minute on the pitch, especially with the fans. I didn’t get to play in front of them too much, but the times that I did I really enjoyed.

โ€œI don’t know what my future holds but I’ll definitely keep my eyes on how Swansea are doing at all times and support them from afar.

โ€œThe fans have been great; everyone’s really taken me under their wing and it’s been amazing.

โ€œI’m absolutely gutted, disappointed – any negative feeling that springs to mind. It’s been such a long season with such drive, ambition and hard work from the lads; it’s just a shame that we couldn’t get over the line,” he added when reflecting on the play off final itself.

โ€œBut I’m incredibly proud of everyone for coming this far and at least giving it a go in the final. We kept running and going again, so we showed pride.โ€

I am sure that Swans fans everywhere will be keeping a keen eye on the progress of Guehi knowing the part that we played in his development.

Good luck Marc. #YJB
