Martin agrees three year contract to join Swansea from MK Dons

It’s been a strange drawn out managerial chase but it seems to be over with several trusted journalists saying that Russell Martin has agreed a three year contract to join the Swans from MK Dons.

The contract – reported as agreed in principle – will see him take charge of the Dons for the last time tomorrow in the League Cup against Bournemouth before making the move to South Wales as the replacement for Steve Cooper.

It has been a strange few weeks for the Swans following the initial report – here on Planet Swans – that Steve Cooper was to leave his post, something confirmed by the club a few days later.

First off in the chase there was John Eustace.ย  The QPR assistant manager made a very quick rise to the top of the odds and the Swans made an approach.ย  It looked simple enough and that he was about to get the job but a U-turn and he stayed in West London and we started again.

Then there was Jody Morris.ย  ย As we have reported twice, he has been very close to the job and certainly looked as if he was about to be appointed.ย  It was reported on these pages in good faith that that was the case and it is certainly certain that he impressed those that spoke to him – some quality journalists have backed that up.

But the Swans had one further twist and returned to Martin who – by accounts on Friday night – has agreed this three year contract in principle and will be the new Swansea City boss.

Welcome to Swansea Russell Martin.

  1. Well there must be an agreement that funds would be made available for anyone to come and manage the club or we will be left in no man’s land regarding having a new manager before the season starts as there have been numerous names been mentioned and I hope that who ever makes that appointment makes the right decision for the club to take us forward not backwards.

  2. Letโ€™s hope itโ€™s true, itโ€™s going to be a messy few weeks, letโ€™s hope the guys pull together to help us through this initial period until the new manager can get settled in . I think we are about 3 or 4 good signings , and we will be ok

  3. Please let this be true, and so far, Planet Swans has been 100% spot on. I was a doubter but now I am in sackcloth and ashes. Well done Planet Swans.
We will, however, need to be patient. The โ€˜processโ€™ will take time, but it is one I am so looking forward to. We know the process as the Swansea Way, so weโ€™re well placed to take it on board.
โ€œTrust the process and enjoy the journey.โ€
Please let this come to fruition.
