Former Swansea City manager Steve Cooper looks set to end his temporary exile from the game by being appointed as manager of Nottingham Forest with reports stating that compensation has been agreed between the two clubs to allow Cooper to replace Chris Hughton who was sacked earlier this week.

Cooper has been on gardening leave since departing the Swans in July after a summer of turmoil that saw him linked with both Crystal Palace and Fulham jobs but ultimately failing to get them both and leaving him with no choice but to leave the Swans with no job to go to.

Sky Sports report the compensation to be at around ยฃ1.2m between the two clubs, a figure set by the Swans to allow for Cooper’s departure in the summer where he remained under contract with the Swans until 2022, the term of his contract.

Sky Sports News reported on Thursday that Cooper was in talks with Forest, having been identified as their preferred candidate to succeed Hughton.

Hughton was sacked on Thursday with Forest bottom of the Championship, having gone winless and lost six of their first seven games.

Caretaker manager Steven Reid will be in charge for the clash with Huddersfield on Saturday.

Former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was also among the favourites to take over at Forest, with initial talks held but the club decided to pursue other managerial options.
