Swansea City 3-0 Peterborough United – Classy Swans coast to victory

Swansea City’s afternoon’s work was as good as done inside the first fifteen minutes this afternoon as they put Peterborough United to the sword with three first half goals on the way to three more home points.

It was a classy display from the Swans in the first half against a Peterborough side who, to their absolute credit, continued to try and play football but simply were no match for a Swans side who simply were just too good for their opponents today.

High pressing, sharp passing, plenty of movement and goals are making the Swans very pleasing on the eye now and whilst we can count ourselves unlucky not to have won by more we can also be grateful to the superb work of Ben Hamer for a top class save in the first half with the score line at just 2-0.

The only downside was a second half that was somewhat of a let down after the first half with Peterborough not able to threaten the Swans at all but goal chances not being plentiful at the other end with the Swans seemingly content with their three goal advantage although substitute Michael Obafemi did trouble former Swans keeper David Cornell on a couple of occasions.

The writing was on the wall for the visitors within the first two minutes when Jake Bidwell was on hand at the back post to open the scoring from an Ethan Laird run with the Man Utd wide man offering a threat all afternoon once again and proving to be an exceptionally shrewd signing for the Swans during the summer window.

One became two inside twelve minutes when Joel Piroe scored his 9th goal of what is proving to be a very productive campaign leaving Cornell flat footed as the ball hit the back of the net.ย  ย  Piroe should have had a second minutes later but he blazed over in an opening 15 minutes where the Swans looked like they could have scored at will.

Peterborough did not sway from their desire to play out from the back but the Swans were pressing high, winning back any possession they lost and it was looking like it was to be a procession all afternoon.

The visitors though did try to fight back and – aside from Hamer’s top quality save – had another chance to pull a goal back before Ntcham effectively sealed the points in first half stoppage time with the Swans third which he drilled into the bottom corner of the net to give us a three goal advantage.

The game was, to all intents and purposes, over at this stage and Russell Martin used the opportunities in the second half to give some rest time to Piroe, Ntcham and Laird and valuable game time to Obafemi, Downes and Whittaker all of whom played their part in what was a comfortable second half for the Swans.

Obafemi can certainly count himself as unlucky not to have added to the Swans advantage and by the time the game had ended more than 700 passes had found a white shirt in completed passes with the actual stat showing an incredible 92% pass completion rate for the Swans in what will be one of our most comfortable wins of this season.

It created a great start to what could be a challenging week for the Swans with trips to Coventry and Bournemouth coming up in the next seven days at the end of which we should have a real good idea of the progression that is being made which is becoming more noticeable game by game.

A good comfortable afternoon, well done Swansea City!
