Reading may arrive in South Wales today just one place above the relegation zone but they are not arriving with manager Veljko Paunoviฤ eyeing up a win that could increase the gap between them and the bottom 3.
Reading were deducted 6 points earlier this month by the EFL who determined the Royals lost ยฃ57.8m between 2017 and 2021 – the EFL’s limit for that period is ยฃ39m.
A further six-point deduction is suspended until the end of next season, provided they comply with a business plan which includes player spending.
That 6 point deduction has currently cost them three places in the current table and that is something they will be looking to reverse when they arrive at the Swansea.com stadium later on today.
A draw and a defeat since that points penalty has done nothing to lift the mood at the Select Car Leasing Stadium but Paunoviฤ hopes to turn that around this afternoon.
“As we donโt have a midweek game coming up, we have to see this as a fantastic opportunity to bring back the three points and build a new momentum,” he told the Reading official site.
โIt doesnโt help us to look at the table โ we have to narrow our focus only on the games and on getting points until weโre in a better position in the table.
โSwansea are a team with a new coach and style this year, and they are building their shape. They havenโt been very consistent, but they are a good team and they have experienced players. Like every team in this league, they are good, but they are also vulnerable.โ
