Manchester City midfielder move is a step closer

As expected one of the Swans loan targets – Tommy Doyle – has had his loan spell with Hamburg terminated which opens the door for a potential move to Swansea in the January window.

Doyle has been a target for the Swans even before his move to Germany at the start of the season and we reported here 10 days ago the imminent cancellation of that loan after there become a growing belief in Manchester that a domestic move may be better for Doyle.

Blackpool and Barnsley are both competitors for the services of Doyle who is the grandson of two City legends in Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe who both wore the light blue shirt of the Citizens.

Doyle played against the Swans in the FA Cup last season where he was described after the game by Pep Guardiola as โ€œAย player with a special quality. He takes it, shoots. Another Man City fan. A historic family, the historic Doyle family.โ€

The Swans showed an interest in Doyle back in the summer alongside both West Brom and Middlesbrough but the loan move to Germany was preferred but it was reported today by Kicker thatย “Tommy Doyle will almost certainly not return to HSV.

“The loan from Manchester City, behind which there was an unsatisfactory half-year with only 71 minutes of use, would have to be quarantined for two weeks after the home leave. It will probably not come to that, Doyle will instead terminate his contract with HSV.”

The Swans will be confident of landing Doyle due to the strong nature of their relationship with Manchester City with sporting director Mark Allen having been the academy director at the Etihad Stadium for eight full seasons until 2017.

Add to that a close relationship between Swans boss Russell Martin and Manchester Cityโ€™s Under-23s coach, Brian Barry-Murphy and that will increase belief within the Swansea.com stadium that we could soon be welcoming some young talent from the current Premier League leaders.
