No formal contact from Portsmouth for Liam – yet!

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley has stated that he has had no contact with Swansea over a possible transfer deal for Liam Cullen but you know from his comments that it is just a matter of time before that changes and the discussions open in earnest.

Cullen is anticipated to potentially be a starter for the Swans against Southampton in the FA Cup tomorrow night but it is clear that in Cowley he has a fan and the Pompey boss is clear in his belief that Cullen could score goals for his side.

“Thereโ€™s not, not over Cullen. No,” was the clear answer from Cowley when asked if the two clubs had been discussing a possible move.

“Heโ€™s a Swansea player and we have a huge respect for Russell Martin and the job heโ€™s doing there.

“Heโ€™s a player I know with good movement, energy and technical ability,ย  he hasnโ€™t scored as many goals as he should for his quality.

“But he will score goals, he will definitely score goals. If you look at his expected goals thereโ€™s goals in that boy. No doubt.

“Thereโ€™s a lot to like about him. Heโ€™s an intelligent player, a really good presser and heโ€™s a lot of characteristics we like in players.”

It is clear from Cowley’s comments that he is a fan of Cullen and from here you can naturally assume that contact will come and a move will be discussed.ย  ย As has been said before the likelihood of us letting him leave will be dependent on us getting in new personnel in that position particularly following the departure of Morgan Whittaker.

For both scenarios though that feels more like a matter of time?
