Martin confirms interest in MK Dons man, Blackburn target

Swans boss Russell Martin has suggested that MK Dons’ midfielder Matt O’Riley is indeed a target for the club, although admitted that funds may be the issue.

O’Riley has scored seven goals this season as his club attempt to push for promotion to the Championship and has been strongly linked with a move away, with Blackburn Rovers also credited with an interest.

Speaking to BBC Wales correspondent Rob Phillips, Martin expressed his admiration for the midfielder; a player he knows well from his time managing the League One Dons. He did however confirm that for any spend to be committed on transfers in, money would need to be sourced from transfers out.

When asked if there had been any progress on a deal for O’Riley, Martin said: “No, Matt O’Riley is a fantastic player, I’ve said this. But he’s an MK Dons player.

“He would be a permanent addition that would take a certain level of investment to become a player anywhere else from MK Dons.

“Before we do any Business, especially permanently, it would take investment coming in. The club’s in a very different position financially than it has been in however long.

“We have to accept that, we knew that when we were coming in so we have to respect that and make sure we are planning accordingly.

“He (O’Riley) is having a fantastic season and lucky for MK Dons that they have a player with such ability.”
