MK Dons defender Harry Darling has commented on the transfer speculation linking him with a move to Swansea City, amidst rumours he has a ยฃ1.5m release clause in his contract.
Darling is one of a host of players said to be Russell Martin’s shortlist along with Matt O’Riley, but funds are said to be the stumbling block in bringing him to SA1.
Nonetheless the rumours persist and much, it is thought, depends on the movements out before any serious spending is committed by the Swansea board.
A centre half is believed to be on Martin’s January shopping list with Rhys Williams potentially returning to Anfield. Darling would fit much of the criteria – strong and quick with good passing ability – and you’d expect would be a main starter in a defence which has looked leaky in recent times.
The 22 year old has made 23 appearances for the play off chasing Dons this season, having been signed by Martin from Cambridge United.
โWeโre all MK Dons players, Iโm happy and I know the other lads are as well,โ Darling told the MK Citizen.
โIf your name gets mentioned, it’s a compliment because it means you’re doing well.
โBut we’re all playing for Milton Keynes, we’ve not got our heads elsewhere.
โIt’s something we don’t really listen to, even though we know it’s there. We’re only focused on our next game.โ
When Martin signed him for the Dons, he said: “Harry is a player we have been keeping tabs on for some time. Weโve watched a lot of him, particularly in the last few months and heโs been our number one target at this position.
We need a proper centre back
