There were several interesting rumours and reports emerging last night involving West Brom and Jamie Paterson although a move to the Hawthorns appears to have fallen through due to the exploits of the Swans player in the last week.
The first of those suggested that West Brom had ‘verbally agreed’ to sign Patersonย before the extension in his contract was triggered early.ย It was rumoured in the piece that the club and the player (presumably through his representatives) were in regular contact and an agreement was made to sign the player on a free.
This would certainly tie in with the events of last weekend to some extent although it makes no sense given Paterson would have to agree to an early extension of the contract and why would he do that if there was an agreement for him to sign somewhere else.ย ย I have to file therefore this part of the reports under doubtful.
The second part of the reports suggest that West Brom’s interest has cooled further due to the recent actions of Paterson where he refused to play for the team as he was not in the ‘right frame of mind’ and has now been demoted to train with the Under-23s with his Swansea City career seemingly over.
This part I can believe as the way Paterson has conducted himself this week will have done little to endear himself to certainly anyone at Swansea City but events will not have gone unnoticed at any clubs hoping to take advantage of his fall from grace here.
The Swans have remained very tight lipped as to what exactly is happening with Paterson although the discussions are bound to be at the forefront of Russell Martin’s press conference ahead of the visit of Preston this weekend where he will be hoping that his side can build on last week’s impressive second half display at Huddersfield.
Whether there is any truth or substance to these reports we do not know but similarly we do not know what club Jamie Paterson will be attached to come February 1st but one thing is certain there is more to come on this very subject.
