If you put to one side developments with Jamie Paterson it has been a pretty good 10 days for Russell Martin as far as his recent Swansea City history goes.ย ย The capture of Andy Fisher was followed by the loan signing of Cyrus Christie.ย ย Yesterday he pulled off what seems to be an excellent capture in Hannes Wolf and in between there was one of his best 45 minutes as the Swans got a point at Huddersfield and most would argue that we deserved more.
Given that result ended a losing streak that, thanks to Covid postponements, stretched back 6 weeks it is not surprising that the Swans boss should be happy with his work over the past week.
Clearly the situation with Paterson will be a frustration and we don’t forget his comments last weekend where he clearly feels that maybe he isn’t having the backing that he wants but given the way he has added three players who should be regular first team features going forward he has to be a happy man.
He certainly was yesterday when he reflected back on the debut of Cyrus Christie in that draw at Huddersfield.ย ย The player made his debut after signing on loan in the days leading up to the game had an impressive debut for the side, contributing much during the game leading the manager to claim that he will be a big player for us going forwards.
โHe is confident and you saw what he has and is capable of in that one moment where he nearly scored after a nice bit of skill,” Martin told the club’s official website.
โThat is on the back of just two days of work. The Thursday was a tough day for him as we tried to get as much work into him as possible, and the way he has taken that on has been fantastic.
โHe will be a really good signing for us, we spoke about the fact he was hungry to play, and the way he performed tells you everything about his character.
โHe is a full international, you can see why, and he is going to be a big player for us, I am sure.โ
Swans fans will get the chance of course to see the home debut of Christie this weekend when Preston are the visitors to the Swansea.com stadium – kick off on Saturday afternoon is 3pm.
