Is there trouble brewing with Obafemi?

Swans striker Michael Obafemi has removed all links to the club on his social media, namely Instagram, in the latest twist with the summer signing.

The Irish international has a significant amount of images and videos from his time at Southampton, but it appears all Swansea related content on Instagram bas been deleted, in a move that suggests he is detaching himself from the club somewhat.

Obafemi did not come off the bench in today’s 1-0 win against Preston, with Russell Martin preferring Kyle Joseph to replace Joel Piroe in the second half.

Martin refused to include the striker in the matchday squad earlier in the season due to issues with his timekeeping and application in training.

Back in November, the Swans boss told Wales Online: โ€œMichael understands why he’s not in the squad, he agrees that he shouldn’t be in the squad, it’s nothing major.

“There are certain things you have to make sure you do to be in the squad. You have to behave every day like what you are, a professional footballer.

“He’s done nothing major but there’s stuff we need to help him with.

“He’s disappointed. I’m disappointed he’s not here, but performance doesn’t come before culture, it’s the other way around. He’ll get there and I’m sure he’ll be back involved soon.

“It’s just a few disciplinary things in terms of the way we train, time keeping and it does matter, unfortunately.”

It seemed like a corner had been turned after the player started against Southampton in the FA Cup and came off the bench to help the Swans draw at Huddersfield.

But the latest news will lead to suggestions that Obafemi could be on his way out in the January window – with links of a loan deal away from the club surfacing on Swans Independent recently.

The striker has scored just once since signing from Southampton in what has been a tough transition to the Championship – the question now is whether he will still be a Swan after January 31st?

  1. Havenโ€™t seen anything to suggest that he is, or wants to play for Swansea. We are always a better team with players who will give their ALL for the shirt. Let him go.

  2. I find it a bit of an insult. It is a privilege to be a footballer and there are many of us here that would love that opportunity. I work hard in my job out of necessity to keep it and for the pride of doing a good days work where I am respected for that. I would hope this player realises who helps to pay their wages and pay both them (the fans) and their colleagues (the team)the same courtesy by realizing their position and grabbing the bull with 2 horns seizing their opportunity!
