Could Brentford’s Charlie be Goode for us this January?

It was speculated yesterday that Brentford defender Charlie Goode would be allowed to leave on loan in the January window with a host of Championship clubs said to be put on alert by the potential availability of the defender.

From a Swansea perspective that news may have become slightly more appealing by the added fact it was suggested that any loan move this window could be followed up with a permanent deal in the summer something that Russell Martin hinted at himself the other day was an attractive option.

We know that the Swans first choice central defender this window has been Harry Darling from MK Dons but with a seven figure transfer fee on his head it looks like he could be out of our current price range with the reporting now suggesting that any move for him could be shelved until the summer.

So does yesterday’s news and our desire for a central defender mean that we could turn to Goode to strengthen up our defence?ย  ย Reading and Cardiff City were immediately linked yesterday when the stories were breaking over his availability but the news would not have been lost on Swansea and we wonder if it could mean that an approach could be forthcoming.

Football Insider reported yesterday thatย  he would be available on loan after making just eight appearances for the Bees this season, only four of which have been in the Premier League.

Goode is under contract until 2024 at the Brentford Community Stadium.

However, the west London club hold the option to extend his stay by a further year although, as mentioned earlier, it has been suggested that they could be open to a loan move with a view to a permanent stay in the summer.

We sit and wonder if this will be a move that Swansea make and it certainly would suggest a decent addition to our defence if we do.
