Martin: “I don’t enjoy the last two or three days”

I don’t suppose that Russell Martin is alone as a football manager when he says that he does not enjoy the last few days of the transfer window.ย  ย There are now just five days left of the second and final window of the season and Martin is awaiting the final days of madness where he believes the bulk of most club’s January transfers are done.

It is widely accepted that the last few days of this window vary differently to the last few days of the summer window with clubs largely in the summer looking to try and conduct business earlier to try and get them in where possible before the season starts.

January is a totally different position where the last few days can see some panic buys (we have had more than our fair share of these) as last minute deals can force clubs to do business where they maybe did not expect to have to do them.

From our perspective the longer term future of Jamie Paterson, Yan Dhanda and Jay Fulton is yet to be resolved and they could yet be departures from the Swans in this window whilst it is hoped that the club will be bringing in at least two new additions before the 11pm Monday deadline.

The Swans boss is braced for the ‘frenzy’ thought of the last few days but remained tight lipped on any potential targets that were close to being completed although Scott Fraser and James McAtee are in the mix whilst moves for Ross Stewart and Harry Darling still interest the Swans but funds remain an issue on having a chance to secure these two players.

“The window, it’s madness really, I think everyone enjoys the excitement of a deal in the last two or three days,” Martin told Wales Online.

“Things change very quickly. I don’t enjoy the last two or three days, I’d much rather it was all done now. It goes into a bit of a frenzy in the last few days and most of the business that happens in January happens then.

“I think we’ve done really good business already, and, I think, whatever happens, we’ll come out of the transfer window stronger than when we started it which is the most important thing.”

One thing is pretty certain though our January business is not yet completed and we await what these five days bring.
